José Ivan Arreola

was born in Durango, Mexico, and came to the United States when he was 4 years old. With the unconditional love and support of his family and the guidance of many mentors, Jose studied Political Science, History, and Ethnic Studies at Santa Clara University-- where he received a full scholarship. Before E4FC he worked as the Executive Director of the Multicultural Center of Santa Clara University and was trained as a community organizer for racial and economic justice by the Center for Third World Organizing in Oakland, California.

The webinar focuses on national legislation and policies that affect undocumented students and their education with specifics on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACD). It discusses best practices for educators to create a safe place for undocumented students and to advocate for students and highlights free resources. The presenter's organization, Educators for Fair Consideration (E4FC), empowers undocumented young people to pursue their dreams of college, career, and citizenship in the United States. 

Objectives

  1. Understand national legislation and policies that affect undocumented students and their education.
  2. Recognize best practices for educators to create a safe place and to advocate for undocumented students.  
  3. Learn about free resources available to educators.
