PIPELINE NEWS

Dear STEM Leaders:

NAPE's STEM Equity Leadership Institute and Professional Development Institute are almost 5 weeks away! We have announced the workshop schedule and descriptions and the featured speakers. Stay tuned for exciting information about Public Policy Day, which, under the direction of Lisa Ransom, NAPE's Director of Public Policy, will be entirely held on Capitol Hill! Visit the PDI webpage for all information.

NAPE staff and consultants were very busy during February. Here is the rundown!

  • On February 3, NAPE Consultant Ben Williams met with the Vermont pilot sites to facilitate the Explore & Discover modules of the PIPE-STEM™ curriculum.
  • On February 4, I made a keynote address, "The Leadership Imperative: Equity in CTE," at the Colorado Association on Career & Technical Education Administrators' conference, and I challenged the audience to consider equity as a critical filter in all facets of CTE.
  • On February 7, NAPE consultants facilitated an orientation to the PIPE-STEM curriculum for The Academies at Anacostia, a Washington, DC, high school and pilot site.
  • On February 10, NAPE consultant Meagan Pollock and I provided professional development to middle school teachers in the U-46 school district in Elgin, IL. This event, funded by a generous grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, allowed the teachers to learn how to best present information to young students about STEM careers and to describe the ways in which STEM careers can enrich their educational pathway and, eventually, their adult lives.
  • On February 19, NAPE Consultants and staff gathered the Washington, DC, cohort for an Explore & Discover meeting. Teams from The University of Washington, DC-Community College (UDC-CC), The Academies at Anacostia, and McKinley Technical High School took a close look at their institutional data to develop hypothesis to address performance gaps in nontraditional programs of study.
  • On February 25, I hosted a professional development webinar on Micromessaging for middle school and high school teachers, administrators, and counselors in the U-46 school district.

Please note that you can request professional development services by complete NAPE's online form. I look forward to seeing all of you in Arlington very soon!

For access, equity, and diversity,

Mimi
