NAPE’s CEO Mimi Lufkin will testify before the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, with the House Committee on Education and Workforce at a hearing titled “Providing More Students a Pathway to Success by Strengthening Career and Technical Education” on Tuesday morning, February 28, 2017, at 10:00 am (EST) in room 2175 Rayburn House Office Building.

Lufkin will join a panel of experts to discuss how career and technical education (CTE0 programs help prepare students for successful careers and meet the economic needs of communities and industries across the country.
For more than three decades, the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act has provided federal support to state and local CTE programs. These programs support college and career readiness in secondary and postsecondary institutions by helping students gain the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to successful compete for high-skill, high-wage, in-demand jobs and succeed in today’s workforce.
In 2016, the House passed with overwhelming bipartisan support the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. Sponsored by Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) and Congresswoman Katherine Clark (D-MA), this legislation included bipartisan reforms to empower state and local community and education leaders, increase transparency and accountability in CTE and improve alignment with in-demand jobs.
Additional witnesses include Mr. Glen Johnson, Manufacturing Workforce Development Leader with BASF Corporation (Houston, TX); Ms. Janet Goble, Director of Career and Technical Education Canyons School District (Sandy, UT); and Mike Rowe, the CEO of the mikeroweWORKS Foundation and TV host of “Dirty Jobs” and “Somebody’s Gotta Do It”
(Santa Monica, CA).
Tuesday’s hearing will be led by Subcommittee Chairman Todd Rokita (R-IN) and Ranking member Jared Polis (D-CO).
