Happenings at NAPE

Dear STEM Leaders,

The PDI is less than 1 month away! Visit our website for descriptions of 30 workshops designed for educators, workforce development professionals, and advocates dedicated to removing barriers to equal opportunity in education and the workforce.

NAPE is seeking talented equity professionals who are interested in serving as consultants to broaden the reach of our programs, products, and services. We will have an informational and interactive session open to all on April 19 from 3-7 pm, in advance of the PDI.

On Monday, April 20, from 5 to 6:30 pm, new members and first-time PDI attendees are invited to a reception in the hotel's Whitney Room to meet NAPE leadership, learn more about NAPE and how to get involved, network, and enjoy light snacks before heading into Old Town Alexandria for dinner with your new friends.

On Wednesday, April 22, PDI participants will travel to Capitol Hill for Public Policy Day. From 9 am to 12:30 pm, we will hear from leaders from Congress and the Administration about legislation and policies related to access, equity, and diversity in education and the workplace. From 1:30 pm to 5 pm, PDI participants will have time to visit with their members of Congress. NAPE offers an Advocacy Toolkit to assist in making connections and discussing issues with members of Congress. Making connections and discussing issues with members of Congress is an effective way to influence outcomes. Please schedule your visits today!

I am happy to share an article that stems from work to expand the STEM Equity Pipeline project in Ohio. In A Snapshot of Ohio: Girls Behind the STEM Equality Movement, published in ACTE Techniques, Pat Huston writes about the stories of girls breaking down career gender barriers that are repeated in the nooks and crannies of workforce education throughout Ohio and the United States.

For equity, access, and diversity,

Mimi
